In my 1/6/20 post below I describe how I first suffered symptoms of ear noise (tinnitus) and pain even as a student of interpreting in Paris. It seems clear that with distance interpreting, which now is being called RSI (Remote Simultaneous Interpreting), the injury rate has climbed significantly. And it's come out in the open. I know interpreters who suffered in silence for years and only now are telling their stories. One told me that she has to ask her husband if church bells are ringing or if it's just her perception of sound. In the article (see button), it is reported that among Canadian Parliament interpreters the rate of auditory injury has tripled since the start of the pandemic and systematic distance interpreting there.
