How much money do conference interpreters make? The International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) in 2012 for the first time attempted to make an estimate on this among its members on the basis of a survey. In the United States it was just under 70,000 euros and in France a little over 50,000. This matches pretty closely my personal experience in these two countries. Note that the average number of days to earn this figure is about 90, which also matches my personal experience. That's about one third of the roughly 260 work days a year (United States). While there is a lot of specific conference preparation, general language study and administrative time that is unpaid, there is also a fair amount of free time compared to the regular office worker. Many Interpreters also translate and/or teach.
